Top 5 places to visit in Honolulu
Starting July 8th, Hawaii will no longer require Covid-19 testing for fully vaccinated incoming travelers. When my sister and I traveled to Hawaii for my birthday in April of this year, a negative PCR/nucleic acid test within 72 hours of travel was required. Lifting the Covid-19 testing restriction will likely lead to an influx of travelers, so I’m sharing my top 5 places to visit in Honolulu for those who are planning a trip to Hawaii in the near future.
We visited the Makapu’u Tidepools after attempting to go to Manoa Fall, which was closed due to dangerous conditions (likely because of the rain). At Makapu’u Summit, you have the option to hike up to the lighthouse or down to the tidepools to watch the waves crash against the volcanic rock. Of course, we chose the latter.
*Pro Tip* bring water and wear hiking shoes even if going to the tidepools as much of the trail is gravel and sharp rocks.
I should’ve worn a bathing suit under my hiking clothes :/
Next, we went to the Halona Blowhole Lookout. My sister was content looking over the rails, but with some convincing I got her to hike down to the beach area. When she retold the story it became, “We had to repel down rocks” Ha!
Would you hike down here?
To get here!
We took an evening trip to Sunset Beach to catch the sunset. We grabbed a bite and a shave ice from the food trucks across the street, set up canopy chairs, and ate our quesadillas on the beach as we watched the sunset.
While we’re on the subject, there was so much delicious food in Honolulu. My absolute favorite was Liliha Bakery, which our Uber driver recommended for the coco puffs, not the cereal :). Coco puffs are puff pastries filled with different varieties of sweet creams. They were okay if you like desserts with cream in the middle…I don’t. I would go back to Hawaii just for this Mahi Mahi sandwich.
What’s a trip to Hawaii without spending a couple of days on the beach doing absolutely nothing? We ended our trip at the Royal Hawaiian, Waikiki Beach. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and its located on the beach. Thanks Marriott Bonvoy points!
