This weekend I attended Dr. Karcheik Alvarado's graduation celebration which was held at
Tea Cakes, the bed & breakfast she owns and operates in historic Washington Park. The venue was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and I had the privilege of hearing a live performance by
Unknown Lyric which was utterly ah-mazing! The group consists of violinist, Kevin Grayson, and guitar player, Jeremiah Turner. Please check them out on itunes. Although the party was awesome, the thing that stood out to me the most was Karcheik's determination. I met her in undergrad and it's great to see her complete her PhD in spite of the story she told about some of the obstacles she faced during this pursuit. I am on the PhD track as well and seeing her realize this dream inspires me to continue to push. What inspires you?
